Ruby and Leauma are co-hosts of an original islander law show called, "Pasifika Legal Analysts" - formerly known as Pasifika Issues Podcast. The show's name change is necessary to emphasize that the co-hosts' education and experience that they bring in analyzing legal issues that affect the pacific islander community. Established in 2018, the show tackles various legal topics. But some recurring themes are need for Pacific resources, need for scholarships to support Pasifika Law Students, and a need for organization of Pasifika Lawyers in the United States. The law topic of evictions is a dark secret in the Pacific Islander community of the U.S. Many feel ashamed and embarrassed having lost homes and a sense of safety.
But in our original islander law podcast, we feel we should tackle the subject head on, discuss its impact on our community, and free ourselves from the stigma. Although we do not offer legal advice, we bring our law school education and experience to review the movie "Saia's Promise," assess tenant's rights and remedies, and describe the impact on our families.
